Smart Library: Enhancing Village Children's Literacy

Abstract

The Smart Library program for enhancing village children's literacy was implemented as part of community service activities in Wayun Village, Gunung Bintang Awai District, South Barito Regency. This program aims to optimize the village reading room as a means to improve children's literacy through attractive reading materials and interactive activities. The method used includes reading room optimization, provision of interesting reading materials, and organizing literacy activities such as competitions and group reading sessions. The program was conducted on August 11-12, 2024, involving 35 children aged 6-15 years from Wayun Village. The results showed increased children's interest in reading, with 75% of participants showing improvement in reading frequency and comprehension. This program provides benefits in increasing community knowledge access to useful information and strengthening literacy culture among Wayun Village residents. The success of this program can serve as a model for developing village literacy programs in other rural areas
